Constitution changes at annual Business Meeting

As you know, we have our Business Meeting to vote on elected positions in our church family May 31. We also want to bring before you a slight modification, with 30+ days advance notice, which reflects our current ministry structure as it pertains to missions and outreach. Towards that end, it is the opinion of the Board of Elders and the Staff that we change our constitution in the area of Outreach to support the staff structure that was enacted last year. As you recall, our current staff is composed of four main areas of responsibility: Adult ministries, Worship, Emerging Generations and Outreach. Each of these is headed by a staff person under our senior pastor.
A little history: Prior to our current constitution, which contains Article VI, Section 10 (Missions Committee), we found that our volunteer Missions Committee had shrunk to almost no volunteers and was in need of committed members. We voted at that time to restructure the constitution by adding in a Missions Committee, since this would no longer leave the committee dependent on volunteers. This did succeed in keeping it staffed, but the situation that led to the change no longer exists and we are recommending that we restore the constitution to the previous structure without a Missions Committee.
Therefore, pursuant to Article XIII (Amendments) of the Grace Community Church Constitution, this notification formally announces a proposed change to the Bylaws of the Constitution. The Board of Elders is recommending the removal of Article VI, Section 10 (Missions Committee) in its entirety. No other changes to the Constitution have been made. This proposed change will be presented to the members of Grace Community Church for a two-thirds majority vote at our upcoming Annual Spring Business Meeting to be held on May 31, 2009.
