Philippians 1:29 (ESV)

“For it has been granted to you that for the sake of Christ you should not only believe in him but also suffer for his sake”

The phrase, “it has been granted to you” is one that has blown my mind. The reason being is we have been granted to suffer with Christ. It made me ask how frequently do we truly embrace this concept of suffering for the sake of Christ? Reflecting back on Easter Sunday it brings to mind the suffering that Christ ultimately endured on the cross for us. I believe something glorious comes out of Christ’s suffering and that is his ultimate love for us. You see in Romans 5:8 it says, “But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us”.

Jesus took the first step; he is not calling us into something that He was not willing to set the example in. We do not have to be perfect or accomplish a certain amount of things for Him to love us, he died for us when we had nothing to bring to the table. Love is worth suffering for. I believe that we can take rest in knowing that suffering is going to come. People may reject your faith in Christ, they may treat you poorly, but you can look to Jesus for strength through these times. Speak God’s promises over your life when times get tough. Keep your eyes on him, embrace his love for you and know that he has you. Don’t quit; keep pressing on knowing that He will see you through.

Jesus, thank You for laying down your life for mine. Help me to endure when life seems impossible. Remind me of your love for me daily and give me the strength to persevere and remain in you. Give me your mindset and allow me to see people the way that you do. Amen.
